AC & DC metering panel

AC & DC Metering Panel - A Boeing 737-800 Homecockpit #59

A long journey finally ends. I started this section of the electric panel 16 month ago. Making the different plates of the panel wasn't the problem. But the pcb that holds the 7-segment displays gave me a hard time. I first tried to make the double sided pcb on my cnc router and later with my CO2 laser, learned about many different ways to produce it but none of them led me to a working result. Maybe it was just a little bit too complex to make it at home.

At the end I ordered the pcb at jlcpcb. The shipping made about three times of the production costs, so I will try to gather more pcbs for upcoming projects in one order. This one worked directly after the soldering.

A last problem is that from time to time the max ICs stop working and come back to life after a restart of Mobiflight. I will have to find out the reason for this, but in general the cpb is working now.

Used materials:

  • 3mm transparent, white and smoked acrylic
  • 2 big ON-OFF switches
  • 1 black push button
  • 2 8-position rotary switches
  • 1 black switch guard
  • 3 yellow annunciator
  • LED stripes for backlighting mounted on a HDF plate
  • 3mm HDF plate

For the pcb:

  • 1 pcb (see attached gerber files)
  • 14 7-segment displays common cathode (7,5 x 14 mm)
  • 2 MAX7219 ICs
  • 2 10k resistors
  • 2 0,1 µF capacitors

In the download file you will find all the needed files to cut out and engrave your own panel as well as the gerber files to create or order your own pcb and some additional documentations.

Hi Mickey in the list of components it shows 10k resistors, but in the schematic it shows 1k? type on the 10k?

    Hello Michael!

Which PMMA have you used? Black №502 3 mm?

    • Mickey says:

For the panels I use clear and white acrylic with a thickness of 3 mm. For the annunciators I use 30% translucent white acrylic that I painted black.

    Hello Mickey,

Well done and keep up the good work.

Is it possible to buy the PCB with the 7 segments installed from you?

    Thank you

    Bala
